Let me start by sharing a little secret. I dislike creams, oils, facial treatments. 1) They can be time consuming, 2) they require proper shaving (something I rarely do, as I only shave every other week), and 3) I hate the greasy feeling they leave on the skin. However, about two years ago I had an experience that made me understand their necessity and discover their benefits. In the summer of 2014 I travelled a lot. Bucharest-Prague-Amsterdam-Cincinnati-New York. Frequent climate changes, temperature shifts, and most important, different types of water used to clean my skin resulted in a severe seborrheic dermatitis. My face was literally falling off. I remember I got back from NY genuinely concerned, so I started asking around. Luckily my friends knew a cosmetician who made wonders with their skin. I braced myself and made an appointment. To this day, I wholeheartedly recommend Mia Dobre—she prescribed me treatment and a product range that I still use today.

That was a bit of an introduction into my relationship with cosmetics. So, although my opinion on these types of products/treatments has changed, I wouldn’t say I’m an avid consumer. I use a moisturizing cream every night, a day cream, and, once a week, I put on a facial mask to help with the dehydration, but that’s pretty much all. A few days ago I got an email from Andreea Filip inviting me to try out a new biorejuvenation treatment, which is supposed to work excellent on both men and women. The treatment is called SUNEKOS® 200, is the result of more than five years of research done by the Pharmaceutics Laboratories Professional in Milano, was launched at the beginning of the year in Italy, and is now made available in clinics in Romania.

Before confirming my participation I made a quick research and I found out that the treatment is based on hyaluronic acid. I may have made peace with creams, but injecting hyaluronic acid in my face was still a big no no for me. Nevertheless, I went to Dermaceutica to meet doctor Monica Darmanescu hoping to get more info. This was my first visit at an esthetician and, to my surprise, it was nothing like I imagined it.

First, there was no one advocating for the necessity—or utility—of invasive esthetic interventions. To the contrary, both the doctor and the ART marketing manager emphasized that these types of procedures require intensive research beforehand (from the patient of course) and that they always need to be done with measure. Also, it’s important that the doctor does not blindly obey the client, but he/she informs the client so that together they decide on the best course of action.

Second, I found out something extremely interesting about the hyaluronic acid. There are two types. The first one is used for fillers (the type I knew of), while the second one—the low molecular weight hyaluronic acid—is the one responsible for the reactivation of dermal regenerative processes leading to improve skin structure and function (this is the core of the SUNEKOS® 200 treatment).

Third, I was pleasantly surprised to hear of the global tendency to encourage natural beauty. I am totally against people who opt to plasticize their faces with endless interventions or surgeries. I believe we should age gracefully, accept our wrinkles, accept the fact that we cannot always look like we did when we were 20, and embrace the different stages of our beauty. That said, no one says we shouldn’t be open or search for ways to preserve our beauty. SUNEKOS® 200 is such a way. The low molecular weight hyaluronic acid, combined with six colagen and elastyn type amino acids, promises to generate visible effects from the very first session.

Before I finish I want to touch upon a taboo subject and debunk the myth of personal care for men. There’s this popular belief (especially in Romania) that men should not take care of themselves. They shouldn’t touch cosmetics, they shouldn’t see a specialist in case of dermatitis or acne, and the sad truth is that there are so many Romanians who would rather hide and suffer at home than go seek professional help. It’s of utmost importance to understand that we all—both men and women—need to take care of our skin.

As you’ve probably figured out, I am against aggressive interventions that change one’s appearance. However, I am more than open to try (of course after careful consideration) any treatment that promises to benefit the skin. I was convinced by SUNEKOS® 200, so I’ve already made an appointment to try it out. Check back the #WeAreFabulous blog to see how that went. ;)

In vara lui 2014 am calatorit foarte mult, Bucuresti-Praga-Amsterdam-Cincinnati-New York. M-am intors in tara de-a dreptul ingrijorat.

In al doilea rand, am aflat ceva foarte interesant despre acidul hialuronic. Exista doua tipuri.

Este in natura fireasca a evolutiei umane.
